TaraRichterDatingCoach6When it comes to dating, it’s easy to get stuck in a rut– especially if you have been out of the game for a while. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results. If you keep going out to the same places, you are going to run into the same people.

If you like a particular restaurant, for example, it’s only natural to keep going back. But if you have had no luck meeting new people at your regular spots, its time to switch it up. There are plenty of happy hours, weekly specials and singles events all around town– it just takes a little research! There are also an infinite number of activities you can try for the first time such as:

  • Golf lessons
  • Tennis lessons
  • A new gym/fitness class
  • Painting class
  • Comedy clubs

Even if none of these are your cup of tea, the point is to get out there and try new things. Don’t let yourself fall trap to anxiety about your age or the fear of never meeting anyone. Make this time in your life all about you and having fun!

Take a step back to consider the vibes you give off when you are out in a public place. What does you body language say? If you are with a group of women, are you closed off, chatting away with the group? Are you often on your cellphones? There are many scenarios people do not feel comfortable approaching (no matter how attractive they find you!) and one of these is large crowds. Getting the guts to walk up to a stranger and introduce yourself can be quite intimidating; it only makes it worse if five of your friends are huddled around, ready to judge you.

Be conscious and courteous of the people around you. Don’t be afraid, especially as a woman, to go up to someone and just say “Hi.” It doesn’t even have to be someone you are physically attracted to. Just practice interacting with people and stepping outside your comfort zone. Because when you make it a habit to push yourself past fear to try new things, amazing things will happen.
